Speakers:

Lorena Camargo

Lorena Camargo, CEO and Founder, Pearl Transportation & Logistics

Lorena Camargo has been living logistics from a young age.  She started in the business at age 17 and worked her way up to Vice President of Operations in a courier company.  At age 24 she decided she was ready to strike out on her own.  Because no bank would risk lending to a 24-year-old upstart, Lorena borrowed $25,000 from a friend of a friend and started her own company, PearlTrans Logistics in Los Angeles.

She’s built Pearl on innovation, quality and teamwork. PearlTrans prides itself in being a full-service transportation provider offering customized same-day transportation solutions.  Today, that company delivers everything everywhere from human tissue to aircraft parts in Southern California, throughout the US and even internationally.

In 2020, Lorena was elected to serve on the board of directors of the Customized Logistics & Delivery Association (CLDA), who advances the interests of the final mile sector of the supply chain through advocacy, networking and education. She credits the association for bringing some of her most influential mentors into her life and forging business relationships that have helped grow her business.

She is also a current executive board member of the Silicon Valley chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. Lorena is a graduate of the Executive Management Program at UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Supply chain disruption. Labor shortage. Rising costs. One innovative way several CLDA members have been combatting these issues is by hiring remote employees. If you think hiring remote workers is only for Fortune 500 companies, think again, as outsourcing work to remote employees is on the rise in the logistics sector. Is it the right fit for your company?

Moderator: Tim Cocchia, COO, Xcel Delivery Services

Speaker: Larry Zogby, CEO, RDS Same Day Delivery

Larry Zogby is the CEO of RDS Same Day Delivery. Larry has more than 36 years of logistics experience in the New York City area. He acquired the company in 1986 at its offices in Brooklyn. In 2019, RDS moved from the East Village to its current location in Long Island City, to a 10,000 square-foot state-of-the-art, full-service facility. Larry is passionate about his company, his customers, his employees, and his community. He wants to do everything he can—inside and outside of the logistics industry—to make his corner of the world a better place. RDS is a valued member of numerous logistics-related groups and associations; including the Customized Logistics and Delivery Association (CLDA), New York State Messenger Courier Association (NYSMCA), and the Express Carriers Association (ECA).

Join CLDA and guests for a briefing on the customized logistics industry and the interface between ecommerce, passenger airlines, and last mile delivery. This event is open to CLDA members and non-members.

Join CLDA for a live webinar on Wednesday, November 3 at 1:00 pm EDT to learn how to identify and defend against cybersecurity attacks from industry leaders.

Transportation & logistics presents a tempting target to ransomware gangsters for several reasons. One, the effects of a successful ransomware attack are felt well outside the business itself, disrupting the supply chains of hundreds to potentially thousands of other businesses, ratcheting up the pressure to quickly pay and restore service. Two, the highly interconnected nature of the business (which intersects at various points with smaller forwarders as well as suppliers, producers and retailers) presents multiple points of malware infiltration. If they find a weak link, ransomware can spread quickly along the chain of systems. Three, relatively low margins have made it difficult to justify investments in cybersecurity infrastructure in the absence of a debilitating attack.

Registration is open to the public, but you must register in advance.
